We think few of high school students have got a clear image of materials science and engineering. For example, what kind of subjects students learn in this department, what kind of social contribution is expected, what kind of jobs one can get after graduation, etc. are not clear. Materials science and engineering is not a field whose outline can easily be imaged, like mechanics, electronics, or civil engineering. However, there is no doubt that materials science and engineering is one of the most essential academic field to study, since everything surround us are constructed of some kind of materials. Furthermore, materials science and engineering is the basis of all engineering field, not only it has close relation to other engineering.
