You will belong to one of the laboratories among the 2 divisions at the 4th grade. Graduation research will be accomplished there. Every student will work on various materials researches of developing new materials, finding out new phenomena or new functions. Let us introduce what kind of research is conducted in each division.

Division of Materials Science

 Physical/chemical properties of materials change a lot depending on kinds or amounts of atoms, or on making process and heat treatments. Physical/chemical mechanisms of phenomena are investigated by micro probes that can distinguish objects in micro- to nano-meters order and by measurement using laser beam etc.

 Metals, semi-conductors and ceramics are applicable to sensors or advanced functional materials owing to their superior electrical, magnetic and chemical properties. It is investigated what materials have such new properties, and what mechanism these properties are stood on. Further research and education is conducted to improve these properties.

Division of Materials Function

 It is intended to develop materials for power generation plants or fuel cells, that realize a clean energy generation, or superconductors and high refractory materials, that are used in nuclear fusion energy plants. Further developments and education on materials are conducted to realize high efficient and saving usage of energy.

 Strength and life time of materials are especially important to utilize and commercialize them. Advanced research and education for materials processing in the next generation are conducted, clarifying the phenomena in the manufacturing process from raw materials into industrial products.
