Marine calcareous plankton such as nannofossil and foraminifera has been utilized to determine sedimentary ages and to reconstruct past environment. Our research focuses are investigation of paleoceanography from the calcareous plankton and sedimentary analysis, and their application to petroleum geology.

We study field outcrops and deep-sea sediments recovered worldwide including materials from International Ocean Discovery Program. Microfossils from sedimentary rocks/sediments are analyzed to reconstruct surface water environment, paleogeography, and past ocean circulation.

We also aim to understand distribution pattern of reservoir rocks (e.g., sandstone) which is related to sea-level changes, and to constrain extent of source rocks from reconstructed changes in ocean circulation and nutricline.
